Follow the Georgia Bridgemen on Twitter

TwitterWe are adding something new this year: messaging through the service Twitter. Twitter was designed as a service for friends, families, and coworkers to communicate and stay in touch through the exchange of short messages. With Twitter it will be easy for the directors to contact many parents and students with last minute updates and schedule changes. Twitter messages will appear as messages on the band’s Twitter site online and can also be sent as text messages to your cell phone (and you must have a texting plan on your cell service to use this feature).

To sign up for Twitter:

  • Got to www.twitter.com
  • Click on the "Get Started ‐ Join!" icon
  • Fill in all the information down to the "Create my account"
  • If no one has your username, etc. it will take you to a page that says "See if your friends are on Twitter" ‐ fill in the password you entered on the previous page and hit “continue''
  • Once that page loads, click on the "Find People" link at the top of the page
  • When that page loads, there should be a box with "Who are you looking for?" above it...type gabridgemen in the box
  • When that page loads, you will see the band logo with “gabridgemen” Click on the "Follow" box
  • We are securing updates to this Twitter page. You will need to send an email to info@georgiabridgemen.com with the subject Twitter. Include your Twitter account name, your child’s name, and your child’s student number.
  • When we receive this email, we’ll verify and then approve you to follow gabridgemen on Twitter.
  • Students can follow the band via Twitter following the same process

To have Twitter messages sent as texts to your phone:

  • Go to your Twitter home page, login with your username and password, and click on 'settings'
  • Next, click on 'Devices"
  • You will see "Mobile Phone" and instructions underneath. Basically, you type +1areacodephonenumber ... for example, 12295551212. Also, check the box that says it’s okay for Twitter to send text messages to your phone and click Save.
  • You will get a code that you have to text from your cell phone to the number 40404.
  • When you do that, and it is approved, you need to go to the settings page and devices again to turn on messaging to your phone.
